Expert gardener and fitness instructor travel America teaching viewers how to garden for life

(New York, February 2024) GardenFit, the hit television show, takes a new approach to gardening, based on the premise that gardening should be joyful, not painful. It’s a first-of-its-kind fusion of stunning garden tours and common-sense self-care, teaching viewers how to take care of their bodies while taking care of their gardens.

Building on the success of Season 1, Season 2—premiering March 18, 2024 on public television (check local listings)—brings 13 new episodes featuring well-known artists, who are also passionate gardeners. The guests include painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, culinary pioneers, musicians, and designers. Creator and host Madeline Hooper is joined by fitness instructor Adam Schersten on a cross-country journey, visiting unique gardens and seeing how the guests’ creative artistry is informed by nature. What they all have in common are the aches and pains associated with their gardening. After Madeline and Adam explore with each guest their imaginative gardens, Adam offers simple, easy-to-learn practical tips and tuneups that teach the guests how prevent strain and stress from gardening by using their bodies correctly.

Madeline has been gardening on 10 acres in upstate New York for over 30 years. As a recognized horticulturist, she was invited to become a trustee of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and then of the Berkshire Botanical Garden, where she has been Vice Chair for the past ten years. She has visited many of the finest gardens in the United States and Europe and developed relationships with leading horticulturalists, garden designers, and plantspeople.

Madeline says, “It’s such a treat to keep learning new ways to be GardenFit, and I’m thrilled to share this knowledge with other gardeners. The experience of producing GardenFit has given me an amazing opportunity to meet inspiring people, who are profoundly affected by nature.”

Adam is a certified personal trainer and posture movement specialist in NYC with more than 12 years of experience. He is a published author who embraces the concepts of body weight training and corrective exercises to empower people to learn healthy movement mechanics and reduce strain to their body with minimal or no equipment. He’s also a plant lover with a jungle of houseplants and a rooftop greenhouse.

Adam reflects, “I had an amazing time meeting these artists and helping them understand where their gardening pains were coming from. It was truly gratifying to offer solutions to them and all gardeners watching. GardenFit is the perfect blend of two of my biggest passions: nature and helping people through healthier movement.”
