The Roots of GardenFit

GARDENFIT was created by Madeline Hooper, an expert gardener who has been cultivating 10 acres in upstate New York for over 30 years. As a recognized horticulturalist, she was invited to become a trustee of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and then of the Berkshire Botanical Garden, where she has been Vice-Chair for the past ten years. After spending these many decades gardening—and suffering the aches and pains that come with it—Madeline finally found a solution by learning how to properly move her body to prevent strain and stress from gardening. She was so eager to share this new-found knowledge that she created the GardenFit television show and traveled all over America helping other gardeners get GardenFit, showing them that their bodies are their most important gardening tool.

GARDENFIT takes a new approach to gardening, based on the premise that gardening should be joyful, not painful. It’s a first-of-its-kind fusion of stunning garden tours and common-sense self-care, teaching viewers how to take care of their bodies while taking care of their gardens.

“It’s such a treat to keep learning new ways to be GardenFit and share this knowledge with fellow gardeners. I’m thrilled to launch Season 2 of GardenFit and welcome a new fitness trainer, Adam Schersten.”

ADAM SCHERSTEN is a certified personal trainer and posture movement specialist in NYC with more than 12 years of experience. He is a published author who embraces the concepts of body weight training and corrective exercises to empower people to learn healthy movement mechanics and reduce strain to their body with minimal or no equipment. He’s also a plant lover with a jungle of houseplants and a rooftop greenhouse.

“I had an amazing time meeting these artists and helping them understand where their gardening pains were coming from. It was truly gratifying to offer solutions to them and all gardeners watching. GardenFit is the perfect blend of two of my biggest passions: nature and helping people through healthier movement.”
